Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 5400 Kelley Street
March 13, 2025 - The fatal shooting of a man at 5400 Kelley Street about 11:10 p.m. on Tuesday (March 11) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
The identity of the deceased male, 39, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The male shooter was not injured.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. LaFour and Detective J. Diaz reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the above address and found an unresponsive male suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Investigators learned there was a disturbance between a couple inside a moving vehicle and the door of the vehicle was open. The shooter, a family member, believed the male was armed and discharged his firearm, striking him. The shooter then called 911 and remained at the scene.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office was contacted and it was determined the case would be presented to a grand jury for review.
The shooter was identified as Tommy Garcia Jr. He was arrested and charged for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon in the 183rd State District Court.
