Suspect Arrested, Charged in Stabbing at 9850 South Kirkwood Road

April 9, 2025 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the stabbing of a man and a woman at 9850 South Kirkwood Road about 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday (April 8).

The suspect, Jalen Kenard Thomas, 23, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault of a family member in the 179th State District Court. A booking photo of Thomas is not available at this time, as he remains hospitalized.

The male, 37, and female, 42, victims were transported to an area hospital to be treated for their injuries.

HPD Major Assaults Division Detective B. Salazar reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to an assault at an apartment at the above address and found a male and female with stab wounds. Officers provided medical assistance until Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived on scene. Paramedics transported the victims to a hospital.

Further investigation determined the male and female are the suspect's mother and stepfather. They were stabbed by the suspect, later identified as Thomas, who then jumped off the second floor balcony and fled into the complex. Officers later located Thomas in the complex and took him into custody. Paramedics transported Thomas to an area hospital to be treated for a broken ankle.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office was contacted and Thomas was subsequently charged in the incident. He will be booked into the Harris County Jail upon his release from the hospital.
