November 19, 2024 - A suspect charged and wanted in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 1050 West Rankin Road about 12:20 p.m. on Monday (Nov. 18) is in custody. 

The suspect, Elijah D. Johnson, 32, is charged with murder in the 180th State District Court. A booking photo of Johnson is attached to this news release.

He is accused in the death of Anthony Garrett, 34.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Montalvo and Detective D. Higgs reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting in a strip center parking lot at the above address and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the male, later identified as Mr. Garrett, to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  

Further investigation and witness statements identified the suspect as Johnson.  After consulting the Harris County District Attorney's Office, a murder charge was filed against him.  

Johnson was arrested on Tuesday (November 19) and booked into the Harris County Jail without incident.
