Investigation into Shooting Incident at 300 Capitol Street

November 19, 2024 - Houston police are investigating the shooting of a male suspect by an HPD officer in the 300 block of Capitol Street about 9:45 p.m. on Monday (Nov. 18).

The suspect was transported to an area hospital and is in stable condition.

Officer C. Castle, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured.  He was sworn in as an officer in June 2023 and is assigned to the Downtown Patrol Division.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeants M. Glover and E. Wohlgemuth reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a call about two suspects trespassing on private property and threatening a property manager with a weapon. Officers located the suspects on the sidewalk along the bayou at the above address.

As officers detained a female suspect, a male suspect started to approach the officers with his hands concealed from view. The officers believed the suspect was armed. Officers gave multiple verbal commands for him to show his hands which he ignored.

The female suspect then pulled away from the officer who was attempting to detain her, which caused herself and the officer to fall to the ground.  Both suffered minor injuries.

The male suspect continued to disobey the officers’ commands, quickly jumped into a shooting stance, bringing both hands together and pointing them directly at the officers.  One officer fired at the suspect, striking him.

Both suspects were transported to area hospitals. The male is in stable condition and the female suspect was treated for minor injuries and released.  No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

As is customary in officer-involved shootings in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
