City of Houston to Honor Former Mayor Sylvester Turner

WHAT: At the family's request, Mayor John Whitmire extends an invitation to the public to join in paying their respects to former Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, who passed away peacefully last week at the age of 70.
WHEN: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2025
The following will take place Tuesday morning beginning at 9 a.m.
9 a.m. Combined Honor Guard of the Houston Fire, and Houston Police will post colors. ... Front steps of City Hall (facing Smith Street)
9:01 a.m. Mayor Whitmire offers brief remarks and ask the Combined Honor Guard of the Houston Fire and Houston Police Departments to lead the Council Members, dignitaries, and guests into the City Hall Rotunda to pay respects to the late Congressman Sylvester Turner.
Note: A Houston Symphony string quartet will perform ambient music inside the rotunda as people pay their respects.
The City Hall rotunda will remain open until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11.
- We invite members of the publicto sign the book of condolence at the entrance to City Hall.
- We ask that visitors do not stop in the rotunda to talk, take photographs, or video so that the line continues to move without delay.
We appreciate your consideration as we observe a solemn event in honor of Congressman and former Mayor Sylvester Turner.
