Providing Hope and Stability for Houston's Most Vulnerable

April 11, 2025 -- Houston, Texas -- The City of Houston Housing and Community Development Department (HCD) and its partners proudly unveiled RoseMary’s Place Apartments in Midtown Houston this past Wednesday. This transformative project provides compassionate support for those exiting homelessness, delivering both dignity and stability to our most vulnerable residents.

RoseMary’s Place features 149 affordable efficiency apartments, each designed to provide a quality living environment. Beyond housing, the community offers shared spaces for supportive programs that empower residents and facilitate their reintegration into a stable and independent life.

The grand opening was made possible through significant funding partnerships, with contributions including $18.6 million from the City of Houston Housing and Community Development Department, $10.2 million from the Harris County Community Services Department, $13.6 million from the sale of tax credits to Hudson Housing, and $2.4 million from Magnificat Houses Inc. (MHI) as a sponsor loan.

"Dedication to solving homelessness through compassionate action is at the heart of what we do at HCD," said Derek Sellers, Deputy Director, City of Houston Housing and Community Development Department. "With a strategic investment of $18.6 million from CDBG-DR17 funds, we are committed to providing not just housing, but a stable foundation for rebuilding lives."

Strategically located in Council District D, RoseMary's Place allows many currently disadvantaged residents to live in a quality, supportive environment and remain connected to their neighborhood.

“RoseMary's Place stands as a cornerstone of our commitment to compassionate care and dignity. This project not only provides a safe harbor for those in need but also reinforces our resolve to uplift every community member through meaningful initiatives,” said Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz, Houston City Council Member, District D.

Inspiration Behind the Name

RoseMary's Place is named in honor of the late Rose Mary Badami, founder of Magnificat Houses Inc. This tribute recognizes her guiding spirit and unwavering commitment to supporting Houston's most vulnerable.
